The Movement Begins
I was seven years old when I got saved. Now, I am in my thirties. Some trying circumstances last year led me to a deep evaluation of my Christian life and to finally question what God’s purpose was for me. Although I had attended church for the biggest part of my life, I had not been involved in church or engaged in furthering God’s kingdom. For the better part of 25 years, I lived in a fictitious gray area where I believed I was doing “good enough” or “not doing too bad.” This lack of commitment coupled with not seeking God’s direction for my life had many times left my life in shambles. I had been a plower, moving headstrong through life, yet I came to the realization that I had no harvest. I had planted no seeds. What had I done with my salvation? In November of last year, this realization led me to recommit my life to Christ and to earnestly seek God’s purpose for my life. I began doing those things that I always knew that I was supposed to be doing, like praying, reading my bible, etc. Six months passed and God spoke to me. What did He say? He said, “RU?”
RU? RU what? The question that He placed on my heart is limitless. RU saved? RU a Christian? RU using the gifts that God has given you? RU living out God’s purpose in your life? RU leading others to Christ? It is direct, yet open-ended. It is a question that we need to ask ourselves and it is a question that we need to actively be asking others. This simple question could change lives. I decided to design a silicone wristband to use as a witnessing tool in hopes of starting a movement…a movement of complacent Christians (like myself) recommitting their lives to God and beginning to focus on the things that are ETERNALLY important. If people ask about it, it immediately opens the door for you to ask them “RU Saved” or to share your own testimony. To me, the bracelet is a witness in itself and wearing it a reminder that as Christians all of us are commissioned by God to lead others to Christ.
The band is black and white signifying the passage from death unto life, from darkness unto light, from being covered in sin to washed white as snow through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
The letters are raised signifying Christ’s resurrection from the grave and his victory over death.
The CROSS with the RU reminding us that TRU Christians should be worried not only about themselves but about the eternal lives of others and that we should be asking “RU” to others on a daily basis.
If you look at the bracelet, you will see the slightest bit of gray on it as the black and white parts meet. It’s unfortunate, that so many of us try to live in this “gray” area of straddling the fence or walking the middle of the road. Don’t be mistaken, to God there is only black and white. Either you are in His will or you are not. There are no gray areas.
I hope that this RU movement takes root and explodes like wildfire across our nation. My prayer is that many lives are changed and many people are brought to the family of God. Although I am just getting started, I am so excited. I’m now doing some plowing and I am also planting some seeds. My focus is now an eternal harvest. I hope to live the rest of my life this way – leading others to Christ. I am finally letting myself be used and it feels so good. The question to ask yourself is RU?
